Summary on Grant Application Form
A high throughput sampling system will be designed and constructed for rapid structure-function studies on arrays of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts, electrocatalysis and for the synthesis of other functional materials. These samples in these arrays may have different chemical composiitns and have individually addresed temperaturesNon crystalline materials such as solutions and glasses may be characterised by X-ray and Raman spectroscopy at appropriate synchrotron facilities (SRS, ESRF and Diamond). The high intensity and tunability of these X-ray sources also allow complex crystalline materials to be probed by the element specific techniques of X-ray spectroscopy and anomalous diffraction under processing conditions. A new capillary sensor system will be developed to combine the electron yield method of detecting X-ray absorption spectra with mass spectrometry sampling of reaction products in the vapour.E-science methods of remote experimental control and of the collection and processing of data arrays from simultaneous measurement techniques will be developed to achieve a high degree of user friendliness.
