Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal is for a new, continuously operating state-of-the-art accelerator with low operational cost. New techniques that can only be developed with an improved, modern accelerator, will establish the centre as a world class UK facility. The new techniques include: light element analysis using RBS, NRA and ERD; ultrahigh depth resolution to 2nm using glancing angle techniques; spatial resolution of RBS, NRA and PIXE down to one micron; increased analysis depths. The three year capital programme will be carried out without significant interruption to the current programme of work thus allowing important research, both university and industry, to continue without delay.
