The intrinsic Josephson effect in the high temperature superconductor T1-Ba-Cu-O (TBCCO) has now been demonstrated and well characterised. A thin film technology which exploits the intrinsic Josephson effect is now required. This will enable the development of a future voltage-tuneable THz oscillator. We propose to investigate intrinsic Josephson effects in thin films of TBCCO in which the copper-oxide planes are mis-oriented by a few degrees with respect to the substrate surface. This will enable us to create bridges using a trivial single lithographic stage upon which to perform our experiments.In this preliminary one-year study we intend to confirm that the TBCCO films grow epitaxially and with mis-orientation equal to the vicinal angle of the substrate surface (up to 20 degrees). We will then pattern bridges in these films and measure their static current-voltage characteristics in order to ascertain the presence of Josephson effects.
