Summary on Grant Application Form
Vehicle and telematics systems manufacturers role is to make the technologies affordable and demonstrate their benefits to customers, freight, passenger and fleet operators are also concerned about the reliability and cost of using new transport telematics systems. For example what will be the overall cost to their business process and is the particular telematics system cost-effective and usable by the driver as to make it a useful technology. There is therefore considerable potential for cost effective telematics systems design engineering, without compromising safety, but taking into consideration user requirements and perception data and with extra benefit of prove of concept systems engineering toolkit. FRETSET is an interdisciplinary project aimed at implementing fleet control telematics systems on a truck systems concept verifier. The project will investigate the development of a framework for integrating systems safety/risk analysis, user requirements/perception, cost benefit and risk-benefit analysis techniques as a process of a process of systematic approach to telematics systems design and implementation. It will utilise user perception/acceptance surveys and systems/user information captured by benchmarking of fleet control telematics systems on the truck systems concept verifier as part of the data for multiple criteria decision support toolkit.
