Summary on Grant Application Form
The EPSRC issued call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) for an Electronics Manufacturing IMRC against a set of 6 research priority areas that had previously been established through industrial consultation. In response to this call, Loughborough University coordinated a community submission of EOIs that addressed the six research priority areas and also provided a separate overarching EOI describing a vision for the centre. Subsequent review of the submitted EOIs at a panel in August 2003 resulted in the selection of team at Loughborough University to lead the generation of the full proposal. An additional EOI, lead by Sheffield University, has also been identified as the potential first flagship project of the proposed IMRC.The package of EOIs was a community submission from a consortium of 23 universities with substantial support and endorsement from Industry and Regional Development Agencies. The submission arose from a series of consortium meetings between the lead authors and an open workshop for the community attended by representatives of 22 universities and 16 companies. The challenge in the next stage of the process is the establishment of a core team from the community, industry and other public bodies to create a coordinated, comprehensive proposal that best reflects the research agenda and academic vision for the sector. This proposal is for network funding to support a core team in the next phase of stakeholder consultation and consortium building.
