Summary on Grant Application Form
We have recently found unusual, low energy features (see case for support) in the electroabsorption spectra of blue-emitting polymer LEDs that to provide indirect indication of polymer doping of the active layers, most likely from the cathodes that include LiF and Ca layers. This proposal seeks funding to allow a more systematic study of the effect, so as to assess the potential and the feasibility for this type of measurements as an advar tool for accessing information on doping of the active layers resulting from either processing (deposition of the cathodes) or operation ( driving ) c LEDs.In particular the equipment requested will allow fabrication of polymer LEDs, without having to rely on devices being made only at Cambridge Display Technology (CDT), with which we will keep, nonetheless, collaborating closely (see letter of support). In this resubmission I have omitted the wo the characterisation and analysis of the energy level line-up in PLEDs as a function of the cathodes deposition conditions and parameters that w as incremental , and that led to the previous proposal being invited for resubmission.
