r the scaffolIn this proposal we seek to take timely advantage of the emerging solid freeforming process of microextrusion freeforming to make complex lattice architectures from ceramics using monolithic filament, tubular filament and composite filaments. These provide scaffold opportunities for hard tissue repair that are unique in allowing complete computer control of the pore architecture. They also offer the possibility to include fugitive slow release growth hormone in the inner tube and the ability to use a coaxial filament of-say, outer resorbable ceramic and inner permanent or outer porous and inner mololithic ceramic composites. The target is maxillofacial repair.of severe trauma to be implemented ay Guys by consultant Paul Robinson but the outcomes apply to orthopaedics in general. This project will open the portfolio of computer generated pore architectures that are possible and it paves the way for the ability to tailor scaffold shape to CT generated CAD files for patient-specific manufacture. The equipment will become compact enough to allow the surgeon to design, build and sinted in the hospital
