Summary on Grant Application Form
The overall aim of this proposal is to improve public understanding of personal hazards associated with wave overtopping. The project therefore has two main aims, to: educate owners, agencies, media, and the public on the occurrence and dangers of violent wave overtopping; disseminate new understanding and tools in forms that assist those responsible to guide the public to later unsafe behaviour; In pursuit of these aims, the proposed work has the following detailed objectives: discuss in detail with the key partners the processes and occurrence of overtopping, and thus alert those with responsibility of the potential hazards, and how they may be mitigated; provide graphical and text materials suitable for permanent information board displays for at risk sites; produce high quality videos / animations / multimedia resources describing violent overtopping processes; generate interactive web-based material for responsible authorities, managers, engineers and general public; to stimulate improved understanding of the key issues by targeted workshops for owners, specialist advisors, media researchers and journalists.
