Summary on Grant Application Form
We plan to develop Jacobi methods and associated rounding error and stability analysis for persymmetric and per-skewsymmetric eigenvalue problems that are also symmetric and skew-symmetric. Important applications are in signal processing and in control of mechanical and electrical vibrations. We will derive structured backward errors to check the quality of computed eigenpairs of eigenproblems with nonlinear structures. We will also investigate a structure preserving Jacobi-like algorithm for the solution of the symmetric quadratic eigenvalue problem. If such an algorithm can be derived it will be a major breakthrough in the numerical analysis of QEPs.
