Summary on Grant Application Form
Significant achievements were made in the first year of 18 months funding awarded on a 3 year application for'Multiphoton and X-ray micro-irradiation to study infra-cellular dynamics'. One of the most notable of these was 3-photon near infra-red induction of UV photoproducts in cellular DNA in finely focused spots. This post-doctoral mobility application will enable the Co-author of the project to maximise her skills and understanding of the laser physics and optical microscopy techniques which form the basis for new biological investigations. At the same time the novel concepts she developed from the biological results will enhance the understanding and skills of the scientific team of laser physicists, optical microscopists and photochemists with whom she works, as well as provide a new focus for the analysis of multiphoton effects in non-homogeneous environments.
