Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal requests support from EPSRC for the delivery of two N+N workshops in ubiquitous computing to drive forward collaborations between Indian and UK researchers. The emphasis of the workshops would not only be on scientific collaborations, but on the development of entrepreneurial approaches to research programmes, which is a priority for both UK and Indian governments. The workshops would be organised by Professor Peter Thomas and EPSRC IT&C staff .Workshop t (August 2002, 5 days) would be held in India, and would bring a team of leading UK researchers in ubiquitous computing together with a team of Indian scientists to develop understandings of research perspectives. The workshop would be presentation and discussion-based, and lead to the identification of relationships, themes and activities. During this workshop, industry players, government officials and others would be invited to participate.u Workshop 2 (January 2003, 3 days) would be held in the UK, and would bring the same teams together to develop a minimum of 6 research collaborations on specific topics. These would be readied for applications for support to the UK and Indian funding agencies respectively.
