Heat transfer and pressure drop during condensation in non-circular micro-channels will be investigated theoretically. The crucial role played by surface tension in enhancing the heat transfer in these circumstances will be included. The approach will be along similar lines to those used in earlier investigations (conducted by Dr Wang with Professor Honda at Kyushu University, Japan) of condensation on the outside of finned tubes and in microfin tubes. The results will provide the information required in the design of condensers for large air-conditioner plant as well as for smaller motor vehicle units (at present designed on an purely empirical basis).
