Summary on Grant Application Form
The 10th International Conference on High Pressure Semiconductors Physics (HPSP-X) will be held at the University of Surrey from August 5th to 8th August 2002. This is the first time that HPSP has been held in the UK and it presents a unique opportunity for EPSRC supported students and staff. The application of high pressure to the study of semiconductors has proved very fruitful. However, it involves difficult and specialised experimental and theoretical techniques and this international conference has regularly provided a very important venue for the exchange and cross-fertilisation of ideas between relatively widely spread groups of researchers. This conference will provide a good opportunity for research students, particularly those in the UK, to learn about specialist experimental and theoretical techniques used in the application of high pressures to semiconductors. It will also allow them to expose their own work to their peers and to experienced workers in the field. This is a key aspect of any research training. To encourage participation we intend to reduce student registration registration fees by 90. To provide excellent international speakers we wish, as is customary, to provide Invited speakers with some financial help. It is intended to reduce their registration fee by 128.
