Summary on Grant Application Form
The main aim of the proposal is to seek the necessary travel funding to carry out neutron scattering experiments at IPNS, Argonne national laboratory (IL) and CAE Saclary near Pairs as matter of urgency, since the first experiment will be scheduled in March 2002. The investigation will allow us to develop a fundamental understanding of the role of water in the formation and stabilisation of DNA/protein structures and the dynamics of supercritical water in confined valume. We believe that the support from EPSRC for this project will enable us to make a concentrated effort on the subject which will have wide implications in chemistry, physiology, biology and in any science for which water is important. It provides excellent value for money!
