Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed Network is one of a family of three Networks covering activity in the Coastal Zone. This Network will focus on problems centred on Beach Processes with sister Networks focussing on Coastal Waters (including esturaies) and Coastal Structures. The Networks aim to address the need for improved communication and interaction between the diverse range of academic groups / disciplines and the similarly diverse community of potential beneficiaries (e.g. local authorities, MAFF, EA, SNH, SEPA, consultants, contractors). The proposed Beach Processes Network will be a facilitator for such improved interactions in its area of interest. It will provide both real and virtual forums for the development of new research activity and new collaborations involving academics and practitioners. It will encourage more efficient dissemination and tak up of new findings. To this end, and in common with its sister Networks, this Network will hold annual plenary meetings supported by a series of themed workshops. A comprehensive web-site will also be established.
