Summary on Grant Application Form
Detailed assessments of the experimental feasibility of the Superconducting Phase Qubit (SCPQ) place it as one of the most promising systems for solid state qubits (e.g. J. E. Mooij et al., Science 285, 1036 (1999); T. P. Orlando et al., Cond-mat/9908283 v2 23 Aug (1999); Timothy P. Spiller, =ortschr. Phys. 48 9-11, 1075-1094 (2000)). The aim of this project is to move beyond feasibility studies to the nanofabrication and experimental study >f quantum dynamics in SCPQs through a determination of their fundamental characteristics, including the quantum level spacing and dephasing imes. Within this project we will address a major problem of the implementation of a probe to interrogate the system without disturbing it. The probe ises our experimental discovery of the phase transfer during Andreev reflections in hybrid normal/superconducting nanostructures.
