Summary on Grant Application Form
The purpose of the PG is to provide the time needed for key researchers from the Internationally leading departments, the ITS and the Department of Fuel and Energy to carry out fundamental research identified in LANTERN (Leeds health, Air quality, Noise, Traffic and Emissions Research Network), and thus making best use of the equipment and facilities enhanced by the recent award of up to 4.2 from the EPSRC: JIF: LANTERN award. The PG intends to contribute substantially to the success of the research programme LANTERN, by pump-priming entirely new theoretical approaches, to formulate robust statistical analyses and develop novel survey methodologies to create microscopic simulation tools for predicting pollutant concentrations in the urban environment. The proposed research team members present unique complimentary skills who by working together will,* Make substantial progress in the core research areas of LANTERN to gain a better understanding of the dispersion of pollutants in the street canyon, and* Identify multi-disciplinary research to generate at least four proposals for cross-Research Council funding each year of the grant.The proposed research will through meetings, seminars, conference attendance and visits develop existing links with researchers in the Universities in North America: Princeton, Colorado, Florida and Toronto; in Europe: Dublin, Aachen, Karlsruhe, Darmstadt, Athens, Madrid, Budapest, Holland,, Denmark; in Hong Kong; Sweden; Thailand; Malaysia and India and also to create new links.
