Summary on Grant Application Form
It is proposed to purchase a Modulated Differential Scanning Calorimeter (MDSC) and dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analyser (DMTA) to underpin the interdisciplinary research programme, supported by the EPSRC and Industry, into polymers and composites in the Manchester Materials Science Centre. This will both replace existing obsolete equipment at the end of its working life and allow new research activities to be undertaken that are not possible with the present apparatus. Collaborative agreements have been made with the instrument manufacturers to establish partnerships to develop the techniques further for the analysis of polymers and composites. The MDSC and DMTA will also be available to other researchers on the Manchester campus: in UMIST, the University of Manchester and at the Manchester Metropolitan University.
