Summary on Grant Application Form
To establish a network which will act as a focus for all the UK work in the area of magnetic oxides. The network will run regular workshops on specific topics, keep a web page and will make regular contributions at CMMP. The interest in materials showing colossal magnetoresistance and low temperature grain boundary magnetoresistance is growing fast. There are challenges in understanding the novel behaviour of the mobile electrons and spins which are very strongly correlated. Equally, ther are severe materials science issues in fabricating controlled grain boundaries and crystals surfaces. This network will provide a forum for these subjects to be discussed along with the industrial need for new concepts for realistic devices.
