A structural probe is an essential component for studying both equilibrium and non-equilibrium properties of complex fluids. It can reveal the hierarchy of the characteristic length scales and their collective dynamic behaviour. The structure evolutions of complex fluids are responsible for their complex rheological and flow behaviour. The only avenue to gain physical insight to the problem is via an approach by combining a structural probe, reliable numerical simulation, accurate measurement of velocity, stress and even composition fields for the benchmark flow problems, as well as rheometric flows. The aim of the proposed visit is to initiate a formal research-link with Professor Gerry Fuller's laboratory at Stanford University on developing optical techniques to probe structure evolution of complex fluids under flow conditions. The proposed visit of Professor Fuller will run in parallel with our recently proposed project (GR/N 35373). We aim to quantitatively characterise complex fluids in strong flow fields, to evaluate existing constitutive models of complex fluids and to provide further useful insight for their future improvement by comparing the measured data of both velocity and stress fields with results of numerical simulations.EngProg\
