Summary on Grant Application Form
We would replace our existing 400MHz spectrometer with a new 500 MHz instrument. This is felt to represent better value for money than the alternative of upgrading our existing instrument, and would enable us to perform a full range of modern NMR experiments, particularly those requiring pulsed field gradients (faster, cleaner, unambiguous two-dimensional experiments in the inverse detection mode). This equipment would be used by NMR service staff to provide a range of NMR experiments which cannot be catered for using the Department's hands-on NMR facilities. These experiments would address the more complex and demanding NMR requirements (mainly) of the research groups whose work is outlined in the case for support, particularly high-quality two-dimensional spectra which for an increasingly important part of the characterisation requirements of leading research groups.
