A knowledge of the microscopic nature of the magnetism in materials provides the basis for the understanding of the macroscopic properties that are often of use in the technological applicatior those materials. The large interface between these, the mesoscopic regime, is increasingly becoming interest as it provides the opportunity to study the interplay between the quantum and classical micro- and macroscopic properties of materials.An exciting development in the study of magnetic materials has come from the field of molecular magnetism where large molecules containing small numbers of magnetically interacting transition me ions have been synthesised. These molecular magnets have opened up a route within this mesoscopic for experimental exploration.We propose to use neutron scattering to determine the spin dynamics of a molecular magnet that ha: copper ions forming a coplanar ring of S=1/2 spin ions. Theories of such magnetic coplanar rings c from the attempt to understand the spin dynamics of low-spin one-dimensional infinite antiferromagnetic chains.
