Summary on Grant Application Form
This multidisciplinary collaborative project aims to confer the capability for the creation of functional gradiation upon solid freeforming by laser sintering of metals. At present the powder assembly methods preclude this. Layers of powder can be rolled into place before sintering or powder can be fed directly into the laser spot. In the procedure to be developed here powders will be mixed in proportions determined by the computer file and deposited in small doses in the required positions to provide both shape and compositional control. The specific application targeted is injection moulding tools with conformal cooling and functional gradients to provide both hard facing and high local thermal conductivity.EngProg\
