Summary on Grant Application Form
RAPS (Recent Appointees in Polymer Science) is a newly formed, non-profit-making that aims to provide a forum for recent appointees in all sectors of UK Polymer Science to forge links into the existing community and to establish contacts for the future. The main thrust of RAPS is to demonstrate the positive effects of collaboration, to encourage new appointees to make such interdisciplinary and industrial links, and to pass on the benefits of accrued experience. We believe the rapid assimilation of new polymer scientists will increase UK productivity in the polymer sector and provide the technological skill base for the next century. RAPS membership is extended to all who (I) have been in their first polymer science post for less than 6 years and (ii) are eligible to apply for independent funding. The RAPS network will run with the following format: an annual general meeting early in the year, followed by subsidises, more specialist 1/2 - 1 day meetings held quarterly. Quarterly committee meetings will ensure the continued smooth and efficient running of the RAPS network. The committee meetings will address membership status, financial status, allocation of funds for specialist meetings, suggestions from RAPS members, and any other matters arising.
