Summary on Grant Application Form
We request the continued funding of Collaborative Computational Project 2 which provides support for a number of UK colloborations on key projects as well as meetings in the area of 'Continuum states of atoms and molecules'.We request PDRA support for a Flagship project entitled Multiple continua in atomic and molecular physics' where the objective is, with ASCI supercomputer architectures in mind, to develop a crucial two-electron propagator code handling two electrons in the continuum at intermediate radial distances. The code will be interfaced with existing electron molecule scattering codes to allow the accurate calculation of, for example, electron impact ionisation of molecules. It will also be interfaced with the atomic R-matrix photoionisation codes making possible the calculation of single photon absorption, two electron ejection processes. A start will be made to interfacing with R-matrix Floquet multiphoton absorption codes to allow in the longer term the calculation of two electron ionisation yields. The permament staff support (50% of Dr Noble at Daresbury) will be employed to supervise the Flagship PDRA and also to participate in CCP2 projects in electron-atom scattering by iron peak region elements and in multiphoton ionization and harmonic generation in com lex atoms.
