Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed visit will advance a project which builds on a 3 year collaboration into innovative new forms of electronic, peer reviewed journal. We will extend this work in the following directions:1. Designing the next version of the web publishing toolkit which has been used to generate our electronic journal, addressing i) more advanced user interfaces for marking up and previewing documents, ii) the architecture for a more distributed applet version of the Java application, and iii) the generation of document metadata.2. Extending the web infrastructure, from supporting debate about a specific document, to support for the analysis of the inter-document relationships within a scholarly literature. This will use knowledge modelling techniques and Java tools for delivering knowledge based applications over the Web (see the case for support)3. Integrating these two strands by applying the document description and linking techniques in (2) to the e-journal document-discourse environment in (1).
