Summary on Grant Application Form
In the proposed project we will investigate low energy electron scattering with high resolution from transient reactive, aeronomic molecules pertinent to the terrestrial stratosphere. The proposed research project combines experimental apparatus developed by the PI to produce high purity (>90%) sources of ozone and chlorine oxides with the intricate high resolution electron spectrometer designed by Professor D Field and co-workers. Absolute total scattering cross sections will be measured with both high resolution (5 meV) and at extremely low incident energies (10meV) for bromine, ozone, 0C10 and C120. Threshold and resonance phenomena will be examined at the onset of vibrational excitation of the target and their role in the fundamental process of dissociative electron attachment elucidated.
