This proposal seeks EPSRC sponsorship of MIUA '99 in terms of bursaries for PhD students and investigators of EPSRC sponsored research in the area covered by the meeting. MIUA (Medical Image Understanding and Analysis) is an expanding area in which significant advances are currently being made. It is an area notable for the range of research communities involved, and the meeting aims to encourage the growth and raise the profile of this multidisciplinary field.Sponsorship will encourage participation and help establish this meeting as the premier UK forum for work in this area. The meeting has the following objectives:- To present state of the art UK research.- To raise awareness of technical advances amongst the user community.- To encourage dialogue and foster collaboration.- To highlight successful transfer of research results to the user and identify future clinical needs.- To encourage discussion of industrial opportunities and chellenges.
