Summary on Grant Application Form
This project is aimed at investigating the structure of highly neutron deficient nuclei in the medium-heavy mass region using radioactive nuclear beams from SPIRAL or other appropriate facilities. An important part of this work will be to help construct and commission the Exogam spectrometer array. The work will utilise this array in both stand alone mode and in conjunction with a variety of ancillary detectors, such as VAMOS/charged particle/neutron detector arrays, to study the gamma rays and identify the reaction products respectively. The main focus of these studies will to be identify the single particle states and their influence on the structure/deformation and shapes of medium-heavy nuclei around the N~Z and proton drip lines. It is proposed to investigate whether the neutron-proton interaction plays a significant role in the structure of very neutron deficient nuclei and to study the relative importance of T=0 and T=1 neutron-proton pairing in N~Z nuclei.
