Summary on Grant Application Form
The research will be carried out in 4 stages: i) Assessment of the current and potential use of IT in knowledge management and organisational learning (KM and OL) on recent construction projects. ii) Modelling of project information flows (using activity/function modelling in eg IDEFO and information modelling in EXPRESS). This provides a basis for comparison of current (AS-IS) use and future (TO-BE) use. iii) Technical and cost-benefit investigation of IT in KM and OL. This will a. draw on BRE Ove Arup/BRE expertise to evaluate current research;b. examining ways of acquiring and storing knowledge derived from IT;c. exploring the applicability of information modelling and mapping between models;d. investigating and evaluating organisational learning tools.iv. Testing/demonstrating selected examples of IT as aids in effective KM and OL.Dissemination of results will be to the partner companies directly and to the industry at large/academic colleagues through conferences and seminars.
