Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed Network will cover the EPDM field by combining 5 overlapping sub-networks concerned with respectively: industry dynamics, application specific packaging, soldering and microjoining, design for manufacture, and inspection/test/process monitoring. Each of these sectors will be represented on a steering board composed of academic members, served by a skilled part-time industrial co-ordinator. The Network's activities are planned to include:1. Research co-ordination including meetings for each sub-network, closely involving the industrial community and encouraging the highest quality of industrially relevant research.2. An annual and topical industrially-led workshop embracing the whole EPDM community.3. Newsletter communications and the creation and maintaining of a stimulating web site featuring virtual product development , graphically promoting the UK's EPDM activities.4. Recognising the global nature of electronics development, inwards and outwards missions to liaise with international researchers, industrialists and government bodies.5. A range of activities to heighten industrially-targeted dissemination and better exploitation of UK research in this field, thereby improving industrial competitiveness.
