Summary on Grant Application Form
Building on techniques developed by Barrett, Blowey and Garcke we will continue our work on the numerical approximation of degenerate fourth order nonlinear parabolic partial differential equations, which arise in lubrication models for thin viscose films and in phase separation models of multi-component alloys. In particular, we seek to develop a fast, accurate and reliable code for the numerical solution of these problems. In addition through collaboration with several theoretical groups working on these problems worldwide, we wish to validate and suggest conjectures on the ture solution of such problems.
