Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposal is to set up a UK based thematic network on 'Structural Monitoring' in the area of large structures such as oil platforms, bridges, ships and industrial process plant. The scope extends into many technology areas such as sensor design, structural analysis and information technology, and the relative benefits and validation of alternative strategies for monitoring of structures. The network brings together representative groups from each of the technical and industrial areas. The network will operate by a dedicated, secure WWW site, with workshops and/or organisational meetings every 4 months. The aims of such interactions will be to work up collaborative proposals, exchange information, and harmonise the handling of data. The information will be disseminated by means of a session at each British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing Annual Conferences during the period, and an Industry Seminar near the end of the three year period. Review papers will also be published in the open literature.
