Summary on Grant Application Form
Diffusion-ordered spectroscopy seeks to separate the NMR signals of different species according to their diffusion coefficient. This allows the signals of individual components in complex mixtures to be identified, as well as giving information on molecular size and interactions. We plan to refine, extend, test and apply the high resolution DOSY techniques we have introduced since 1994. Planned developments include data processing techniques to improve the extraction of reliable diffusion information from overlapping spectra, new pulse sequences with lock, field disturbances and offset compensation to allow very rapid DOSY resolution, and applications to areas such as drug degradation, animal and human biofluid analysis, measurement of exchange rates, analysis of complex inorganic mixtures, and drug absorption studies.
