In phase-ordering kinetics we propose to investigate the influence non-dissipative mechanisms, which are present in many experimental systems. Driven diffusive systems will be studied via an interface-relaxation approach, Heisenberg ferromagnets with precessional dynamics via an approximate gaussian closure scheme for the pair correlation. The nature of corrections to scaling will also be investigated for general phase-ordering systems, notably those with conserved order parameter, and the influence of non-linearities on the recently introduced phenomenon of 'persistence' will be studied with a view to clarifying recent experimental results on nematic liquid crystals.In disordered systems, we will focus on three sub-themes. Firstly, the existence of a recently proposed spin-glass phase in ferromagnets subject to random magnetic fields will be investigated by looking at the appropriate conjugate susceptibility. Secondly we will construct theoretical models of 3He in aerogel in an attempt to account for the perplexing results obtained by experimental colleagues in Manchester, who observe behaviour unlike that of either of the conventional phases of bulk superfluid 3He. Finally we will study the properties of periodic media driven through disorder, which is relevant in particular to the motion of flux lines in disordered superconductors.
