Summary on Grant Application Form
We will study the cahracteristic spin excitation spectra observed by neutron scattering measurements and the unusaula high temperature dependence of the Cu NMR relaxation rate in the doped high-temperature superconductors. In the former we will focus on the spin-gap effect observed in the normal state of underdoped Uba, Cu, O compounds, the strong antiferromagnetic commensurate (Yba,CU,O). We will investigate the possibility that all these phenomena could be consistently explained as the result of typical spin excitiations in the tow dimensional Hubbard modle due to strong correlation. We wish to interpret the anomalous behaviour of the nuclear relaxation rate 1/T, namely, (1T) a T behaviour of the Cu NMR of YB, Cu, O which involves a spin-gap reduction at low temperatures as another manifestation of the same characteristic spin excitations measured at vanishing energies. Our calculations of these quantities will be performed, both analytically in a slave-boson scheme and numerically in a quantum Monte Carlo simulation, as functions of temperature, excitation energy, doping, coulomb interaction U, etc.
