Summary on Grant Application Form
There are three main aims:- 1) To understand how the metastable ausferrite structure breaks down due to ageing which occurs during services. The kinetics, structural and property changes during ageing will be measured as a function of time, temperature and composition.2) Results from 1) will be analysed to predict service life up to 500 degrees centigrade and to establish structure-property relationships that control service life. 3) Control of the ageing reaction through temperature, composition and the nature of the initial ausferrite structure will be explored as a means of extending the service life of ADI components.
