Summary on Grant Application Form
This project will form part of Workpackage 1 of the larger collaborative programme under the heading of 'Use of Transport Telematics in Point of Sale Assessment'.The scope of this project will include the cusomter's Requirements Capture and the vehicle System Design, Development and Manufacturing Processes. The project will take as its starting point those modification required to adapt vehicles to the needs of the disabled and elderly driver, and to develop the implementation of these 'on-off, hand-built' modifications, typically carried out by the vehicle manufacturer as part of the regular processes and then to apply these to improve the quality of life for all drivers. It is expected that near-future vehicle features, such as central high-speed network, general purpose displays, and end-of-line programmable controllers will provide significant initial direction towards the project's goals. Eventually, though it will require industry-wide standardization of both use and electrical interfaces to take full advantage of these features. This aspect will greatly benefit from the dissemination activities of the programme, and from the interest that it generates within the automotive industry.
