Summary on Grant Application Form
Over the years numerous instruments have been devised to examine the mechanical properties of skin. Up until now all of these are semi-invasive and involve contact with the skin, often using adhesives. This proposal is concerned with the design, development and construction of a new form of instrument based on the use of ultrasonic radiation pressure. Such as instrument will enable a wide range of mechanical property measurements to be achieved, from the fast dynamic response typical of the initial stages of mechanical loading of skin through the longer term viscoelastic response.
