Summary on Grant Application Form
The main axis of our research is on techniques, algorithms, and underlying theory for the solution of large-scale linear and nonlinear systems. This includes direct and preconditioned iterative methods for solving large sparse linear systems on both serial and parallel computers, augmented Lagrangian and interior-point approaches to general and linearly constrained optimization problems, automatic differentiation, and eigenproblem solution for symmetric and unsymmetric problems. We are also in the forefront of mathematical software development including participation in the evolution of the Fortran programming language. Several books by group members are in preparation.
