Summary on Grant Application Form
The purpose of the proposed work is to investigate the feasibility of creating an insulating tape which demonstrates the thermal properties of aluminium oxide loaded insulating resins with the non-linear behaviour and surge suppressive characteristics achieved by the addition of zinc oxide filler. The work will be performed against a background of practicality in terms of mechanical properties, manufacturing and discharge resistance.Dr. R.A. Fouracre, University of Strathclyde, will investigate the ageing of the electrical properties of the materials produced in Manchester. Jones Stroud Insulations, will provide materials and manufacture loaded tapes as dictated by the experimental results of the programme. Rolls Royce, Industrial Power Group, will supply materials and advice relating to the operation of insulating tapes in the manufacture of large electrical machines.
