The Lean Processing Programme is designed to extend the Lean Production Philosophy into the automotive processing industry and its associated customer base. Over a three-year period it is intended to make radical step change improvements to a critical high value adding supply chain which will define the framework, tool kit and method for subsequent emulation in other automotive process sectors. This will lead to the generation of a high performing upstream supply system across a multiplicity of technologies yielding significant competitive advantage.The programme will revolve around, and be co-sponsored by British Steel Strip Products (BSSP) and nine of their customers together with researchers at the Lean Enterprise Research Centre (LERC). Anticipated results include the better understanding of customer requirements, an improved learning culture in BSSP and radical improvements in the automotive processor and their customers. More specifically the objectives for BSSP and their customers will include: a faster reaction time, improved delivery performance, reduced new product time to market, better quality product improved productivity and increased business opportunities.This will be achieved though the adaptation and localisation of various Japanese approaches pioneered in the automotive and other industries such as Quality Function Deployment, Hoshin Kanri and Kyoryoku Kai.
