Summary on Grant Application Form
The purpose of the North West STEM is to provide a state-of-the-art microstructural analysis facility for a large number of desperate research projects. Central to its effectiveness as a world class facility is the availability of an expert research scientist who is capable of (i) maintaining the instrument, (ii) training new users, and (iii) providing insight and expertise in the instrument, acquisition and interpretation. The purpose of this application is to retain the services of Dr R J Keyse in such a role. Highlighted in this application are three specific areas where the continued availability of ultra-high-resolution analytical electron microscopy in especially important. Those areas concerned are:- (a) electronic and optoelectronic materials, (b) interfaces and grain boundaries in metallic alloys and composite systems, and (c) catalyst materials.
