CDMA and other technique for multiple access require the use of sets of sequences with certain auto- and cross-correlation properties. Such sequence sets have been widely studied for a number of years. However, it would appear that one crucial property as far as applications are concerned, namely that the partial period cross-correlations should be relatively close to zero, has been largely ignored until very recently, probably because these correlation values are rather difficult to compute. We intend to study how well this property holds in those sequence sets which have been most frequently put forward as appropriate for use. We will also attempt to find new sequence sets with relatively good partial period characteristics.In parallel with this work we also intend to look at related problems involving coding, complexity and binary sequences. This is an area in which both the host department and Dr. Etzion have extensive expertise.
