Summary on Grant Application Form
The fire response model and other methodologies developed in Phase III of Composites Offshore' will be validated, refined and extended to give quantitative design tools for situations where load-bearing FRP structure is subjected to hydrocarbon fire. Problems to be covered will include: 2-D effects in laminates, retention of structural integrity of pipes and sections under load, behaviour of wet pipes and the use of FRP as passive fire protection. In addition, the fire model will be extended to describe the heat flux and ablative effects in jet-fires and jet-fire tests. Finally a previously-developed database of FRP fire test results will be extended to include properties for use in fire and used to include material constants for different composite systems for use in the fire simulation models.
