Summary on Grant Application Form
The purpose of this grant proposal is to synthesise novel chiral ligands and to employ these as chiral modifiers in a range of organometallic reactions by coordination to the metal centre. The feature of these ligands is that they contain a group at the reactive site (viz ferrocene, 1,3-dithiole or tetrathiafulvalene) which can be addressed electrochemically. This should enable us to control the coordination of the metal to the ligand by alteration of the potential in the electrolysis media. Thus by portionwise addition of the organometallic reagent and repeated redox cycles, a catalytic system should be developed.
