Summary on Grant Application Form
This project will investigate the optical and semiconductor physics of LED structures fabricated from poloypryidines, a new family of air stable, soluble luminescent conjugated polymers. We wish to study their photophysics to determine luminescent efficiencies, triplet states, radiative and non-radiative pathways. We will fabricate LED devices from them, including multi-layer structures incorporating polyaniline buffer layers. Device characteristics will be studied to elucidate recombination and charge transport processes. Buffer layer properties will be studied in an effort to reduce threshold voltages and currents. The project goals are to fabricate blue LEDs with good emission efficiencies.
