Summary on Grant Application Form
Low temperature solid-polymer electrolyte fuel cells depend critically on platinum and Pt alloys as cathode catalysts. This limits the activity of such cathodes in Direct Methanol Fuel cells and the longevity of the catalysts in normal air operation. This programme seeks a systematic development of a new generation of oxygen reduction catalyst based on metal chalcogenides to establish the best stoichiometry and dispersion protocols on specially functionalised carbon substrates.
