Summary on Grant Application Form
Two series of chiral ligands suitable for complexation of low valant lanthanide compounds will be prepared and their application to enantioselective cyclopropanation, pinacol coupling and lanthanide Grignard reaction explored. The first series comprises a number of electron donating polydentate nitrogen and oxygen ligands readily obtained from the chiral pool. The second series are tethered bis penta-alkylmethylcyclopentadienyl units containing back-bone asymmetry. Routes that enable variation in back bone length and stereochemistry, as well as cyclopentadienyl substituents will be studied. In addition o their applications in organic synthesis the effect of these novel ligands on the stereochemistry and structure of other organometallic complexes will be examined.
