Summary on Grant Application Form
To prepare and characterise novel materials comprising nanometre-scale metal and metal-oxide particles in microporous frameworks. To probe the magnetic and charge state properties of these particles, especially any differences between the bulk and surface atoms, using Mossbauer spectroscopy. To test the application of these systems to the catalysis of low-temperature CO oxidation and to new chemical sensors. To study fundamental finite-size effects and the magnetic properties of non-interacting single-domain particles.
